Frequently Asked Questions About Airbrush Tanning

Click one of the following questions to find out the answer.

How long will my Airbrush Tan last?

Airbrush tanning only affects the outer layer of skin. As your skin cells naturally shed, the airbrush tan will fade. Your airbrush tan should last 7-10 days, with an average of about a week. Moisturizing is a key to maintaining your Pink Sands Airbrush Tan.

How does Airbrush Tanning work?

Your body is airbrushed with the custom prepared tanning solution that contains DHA (Dihydroxyacetone); a colorless sugar that reacts with the Amino acids in the layers of your skin and over a period of a few hours, the skin will turn brown.

Is Airbrush Tanning safe?

Pink Sands Airbrush Tan & Salon wants you to have a safe and enjoyable sunless experience! Whenever you tan with us, please be sure to use proper eye-wear, nose filters, and lip protection. Pink Sands uses strong backdrop exhaust venting and a ceiling vent for over spray in each room and provides complimentary eye-wear, nose filters, and offer a variety of lip protection for sale at the counter. For more information on sunless tanning, please visit the FDA site.

DHA based Sunless tanning has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Organization, American Academy of Dermatology, Canadian Dermatology Association.

Can anyone Airbrush Tan?

We suggest that pregnant women, those with severe asthma or diabetes consult a physician before airbrush tanning.

Is Airbrush Tanning messy or smelly?

No. Our product produces a very precise mist that is odorless, non-sticky, fast-drying & long-lasting. Over-spray is caught in a strong venting system and on mobile treatments in a tent that we set up before your tan. (Sometimes there can be a faint scent that will go away after your first shower.)

What should I wear for my Airbrush Tan?

You can wear as much or as little as you like. For men, we suggest wearing dark swim trunks or dark-colored boxer shorts. For women, we suggest wearing a dark bikini or G-string. However, women are perfectly welcome to tan topless so there won't be any tan lines. We also offer a disposable bandeau.

Will I get orange or streaky with an Airbrush Tan?

Absolutely not! Discoloration is the result of tanning pills or older tanning elements. A professional airbrush tan with modern tanning agents will avoid this. Streakiness is caused by improper application of home tanning creams and sprays. This is why you should always let a professional apply your airbrush tan.

What should I do after I Airbrush Tan?

Follow these simple rules to have your airbrush tan last as long as possible:

  • Wear loose, dark-colored clothing after you airbrush tan.

  • Do not shower/bathe/swim or get wet for at least 8 hours; as this can remove some of the tanning solution before it has had a chance to fully develop, causing streaks.

  • The first night, it is best to wear dark-colored pajamas or dark, baggy/loose clothing in order to prevent disturbing your tan from fully developing. This will also protect your sheets; do not sleep on silk sheets as staining will occur.

  • When showering after your airbrush tan, you may notice some brown staining in the water. Do not panic! Your tan is not washing off. Only the dye rinsing off, revealing your tanned skin underneath.

  • Avoid soaking in a bath as this encourages the sloughing off of dead skin cells, which will increase the fading of your airbrush tan.

  • Avoid swimming pools, as chlorine will increase the fading of your airbrush tan.

  • Moisturize every day (preferably twice) with a hydrating lotion in order to keep your skin and tan in tip-top condition.
